BBQ’ing …

First, look at my current BBQ !

We bought this BBQ in Oct of ’99 …  I thought it was only 5 or 6 years old, but I guess it’s almost 10 !  AND.. we BBQ all the time!

First – Check out the handle.  It fell off a few years back.  I got some tie wire and made a nifty new handle.  Works like a charm.

Second – Check out the first knob. (hard to see, but it’s not there)  It stopped turning about a week ago.  I needed to BBQ a few nights ago, so I got some WD-40, screwdriver and a pair of pliers and got it to work!

BUT…  it is time for a new BBQ.  My husband has been researching BBQ’s for a few weeks and we have decided on this one:

A new Weber.  And, a big plus is that it will hook up to natural gas – which we have a line over to our BBQ area already! No more filling tanks.  The only negative is the knobs on the side and not in the front.  Why do they put the knobs on a workable surface?  Oh well…  I can live with that.

I still can’t believe we made our Char-Broil BBQ last 10 years (with a few replacement parts over that time).

OKAY…. and now for one of my favorite things to BBQ:

Carne Asada (Grilled Steak)

12 steaks, 1/4 inch thick
1 cup corn oil
1 1/2 teaspoon oregano
Salt and Pepper to taste
2 cups orange juice – fresh is always best
1/2 cup lime juice
4 tsp. red wine vinegar
12 slice of orange, in rounds.

On a cutting board, brush some corn oil on the steaks and then season with oregano, salt and pepper.  In a large bowl add the orange juice, lime juice and vinegar.  Add the meat and let marinate for 2 hours.
