It was a success! I pinned an Apple Dump Cake last week to my Food board on Pinterest. I thought I would make it for dessert on Easter. I did! It was good! I changed up the recipe just a bit by using different apples, but other than that, I followed the recipe as written. The original recipe came from a blog called “CookBlog.org” and the recipe is called “Fresh Apple Cake“.
All you need is three ingredients –
Yellow Cake Mix
I used a 9 x 13 glass dish and buttered the bottom and sides.
I used 3 Granny Smith apples, 1 Honey Crisp Apple, 1 Golden Delicious and 1 Gala. The reason I used so many different kinds, was that I wasn’t sure what I wanted to use! I have made an apple recipe that calls for Granny Smith and Honey Crisp and it is SO good, so I figured I would make this “cake” the same way.
I peeled my apples and sliced them, layering them in the pan. I alternated types of apples.
I poured the entire box of cake mix over my apples.
I melted one stick of butter and poured that over the cake mix.
I did as the original recipe called for and drizzled a bit of water over the areas of cake mix that looked dry.
After I baked it about 45 minutes at 350, there were still dry areas of cake mix, so I topped those areas with thin slices of butter … more butter is better right? Yikes!
I baked it until the top looked done and I could see that the apples were bubbling away.
It was a hit! Served with some vanilla ice cream. It didn’t taste that sweet … maybe because of the apples.
You could add some cinnamon too, that would be good!
What’s left in the pan! Enough for tonight’s dessert! I will definitely make this again!
